Description (from Design and Access Statement for planning application submission in 2014):
“This proposal is for a new theatre to be built as part of an exciting mixed-use scheme. As well as the theatre there will be other cultural facilities (rehearsal spaces,an art gallery, a tea museum), a restaurant and a cafe, commercial (B1) space, and 9 apartments.
This regeneration project will be on a gap site on the south side of Southwark Street which has been
underused and awaiting development for over 20 years.
The site is adjacent to the developer-owned Menier Chocolate Factory Theatre, which is always sold out. Southwark Square’s aim is to build on this success with a new theatre as well as prestige residential and high quality commercial space.”
